Dream Flights Honors Veterans at Big Spring McMahon-Wrinkle Airport

On June 13, 2026, Big Spring McMahon-Wrinkle Airport (KBPG) welcomed the Dream Flights Spirit of Texas Dedication Tour for a memorable day celebrating local veterans and the enduring spirit of aviation.

Galaxy FBO was proud to host this special event that brought together veterans, families, community members, and aviation enthusiasts to honor those who served our nation. Throughout the morning, selected veterans experienced the thrill of flight aboard the Spirit of Texas, a beautifully restored 1943 Boeing Stearman biplane originally used to train military aviators during World War II.

Big Spring was one of nine Texas stops on the Dream Flights tour, which provides complimentary flights to senior veterans from the World War II, Korean War, and Vietnam War eras. The nonprofit Dream Flights Foundation has provided thousands of these experiences nationwide, allowing veterans to reconnect with the sights, sounds, and emotions of aviation while celebrating their service.

The event featured the posting of colors by the Young Marines, patriotic music, and opportunities for attendees to personally thank local service members. Eight veterans took flight during the Big Spring stop, including a female veteran and several participants who have surpassed the century mark in age.

For many participants, the flight represented more than a ride in a historic aircraft—it was an opportunity to relive memories, share stories, and experience the joy of flight once again. Dream Flights often describes its mission as helping veterans “take off at 90 and land feeling 30 years younger,” and the smiles seen throughout the day in Big Spring certainly reflected that sentiment.

Galaxy FBO was honored to host the event as part of its ongoing commitment to supporting the communities it serves. Since assuming FBO operations at Big Spring McMahon-Wrinkle Airport in April 2026, Galaxy has been investing in facility improvements and community partnerships that strengthen the airport’s role as a regional aviation asset.

We are grateful to Dream Flights, the participating veterans, the City of Big Spring, and everyone who helped make this event possible,” said Mike Feeley A.A.E., Airport Director for the Big Spring / McMahon-Wrinkle Airport. “It was a privilege to help recognize these heroes and share the magic of flight with them.”

As Big Spring continues to grow as a destination for aviation, industry, and community engagement, events like Dream Flights serve as a reminder that airports are more than transportation hubs; they are places where history, service, and people come together.

Galaxy FBO extends its sincere thanks to all veterans who participated and to the volunteers, families, and community members who joined us in making the day a success.
